Volgograd rings with the Music of Peace
On August 28, 2019, Volgograd regional branch of the International Public Foundation “Russian Peace Foundation” hosted a concert within the frame of the “Music of Peace” program. A chamber choir under the conduction of Mr. Betin Güneş, based in Cologne, Volgograd’s partner-city from the Western Germany, performed several songs in a variety of languages including Russian, German, Latin and Turkish.
The versatile concert was preceded by the words of greeting by the Chair of Volgograd Peace Foundation Mr. Yury Starovatykh , head of the International and regional relations directorate of Volgograd Mayor’s office Mr. Sergey Lapshinov and the Chair of the “Volgograd-Cologne” Friendship Society Ms. Liudmila Koshlakova.
The choir arrived on the occasion of the 430th anniversary since Volgograd’s foundation – the Day of the City – to make a performance and visit the key historical and cultural places of the hero-city. The one to come up with the idea of such a journey was Mr. Hans-Josef Bauer from the German “Cologne-Volgograd” Friendship Society . The Cologne delegation attended expositions, leisure centers and festivals.
The celebration ended with a river boat ride in the warm company of the Chair of Volgograd Peace Foundation Mr. Yury Starovatykh, a member of the Foundation’s Board Ms. Helvi Lattu , the Chair and the other members of the “Volgograd-Cologne” Friendship Society. Celebratory addresses and memorable gifts were exchanged, and toasts were raised. The German guests enjoyed their stay and promised to return to Volgograd with a new program.
