Volgograd became a president of the International Association of Peace Messenger Cities

The city of Volgograd has recently been elected to join the ranks of the IAPMC (International Association of Peace Messenger Cities) Executive Officers as one of its presidents. Such a decision was made unanimously by the delegates of the 30th IAPMC General Assembly, which took place in the city of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina.)

An appointment to such a demanding post is a legitimate outcome of the decades-long work that the hero-city and its residents have been performing for the promotion of peace, cementing of mutual understanding and international cooperation.

Volgograd will enter the office after the next General Assembly following the city of Sarajevo itself, and later will cede the post to the Cypriot Morphou, which is accepting this honorable responsibility for the second term already.

Election to the post of one of the four IAPMC presidents has reestablished Volgograd’s status as a capital of people’s diplomacy. Besides, this will give our city an opportunity to participate in global politics, promote peaceful initiatives on the world arena, as well as increase Volgograd’s potential for the promotion of its positive image.

For several years in a row, Volgograd has been organizing the International forum of People’s Diplomacy “Dialogue on the Volga: Peace and Mutual Understanding in the 21st Century”, and in 2018 it hosted the 29th General Assembly of the International Association of Peace Messenger Cities (IAPMC), which united 16 cities from 14 countries.

Altogether, the 30th General Assembly of the International Association of Peace Messenger Cities united representatives of 13 countries. The Russian Federation was represented by Volgograd, which has been a member of the IAPMC since the day if its establishment.

The International Association of Peace Messenger Cities was created back in 1988 and united the cities that had earlier made the most significant contribution to the realization of goals and programs of the International Peace Year, thus obtaining from the UN an honorable title of Peace Messenger Cities. In the territory of the late USSR, these were Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Minsk, Kiev, Tbilisi, Tashkent, Sochi, Vladivostok and Volgogradд.
