Volgograd – 2018

Volgograd will be entering the summer of 2018 with FIFA World Cup matches. These days the city is expected to welcome more than 20,000 visitors from all over the world.
Spectators of the FIFA World Cup 2018 will enjoy the new football arena “Victory” with 45,000 seats, a 4-level parking for 3,000 cars, more than 1,000 observation cameras, 2 gigantic high-tech displays, more than one million projector lights, and a VIP-stand with 640 seats. In addition to a football pitch and grand stands, the stadium will feature sport halls, a fitness-center, cinema and concert halls, conference halls, children playgrounds, two restaurants, three cafes and several bars.
A new international terminal of Volgograd airport is currently under construction, and the take-off runway is being extended. The airport’s exterior and interior design will have to change, too. The project-makers are planning to establish a railroad connection between the airport and the “Volgograd 1” train station with an aeroexpress to shuttle between them.
Following the FIFA requirements, the city will construct three training sites and one team base camp.
As a part of its preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2018, Volgograd will create more than 2,000 new bed-places for the accommodation of guests. Football fans will be offered to stay not only in hotels but also in touristic recreation base camps on the outskirts of the city. Volgograd citizens and World Cup spectators will have a chance to see a lot of great sportsmen and players live, including both present day stars and those who are yet to work their way to international fame.
The schedule of FIFA World Cup qualification matches will be announced on 25 July 2023 during the main qualifying draw at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Saint Petersburg.

Short videos introducing Russian host-cities of World Cup 2018 were prepared by FIFA and released on the Internet. Volgograd promotional video doesn’t contain any information related to sport, but highlights city’s significant places and sights, shows beauty of nature and citizens. 
Promo video reveals main landmarks of the Hero-City of Volgograd. The video starts with the Motherland Calls statue, which is famous all over the world. Then
the train station building, Alexander Nevsky monument in front of the New Experimental Theatre and a monument to Lenin located on the square of the same name are seen in the video.
Olympic champions Larisa Ilchenko and Yelena Slesarenko took part in making Volgograd promotional video. The short videos presented at the official FIFA channel were filmed by FIFA TV and FIFA FILMS shooting teams which produce video content for the Fédération Internationale de Football Association in the summer of 2014. That is why all 11 host cities are smothered in greenery, sun-drenched and full of tourists wearing summer clothes. Video postcards telling stories about 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ host cities launch a series of video products that will help FIFA to introduce the country to host the main football tournament of quadrennium.
According to gazeta.ru, among other projects that the department within FIFA responsible for video production is going to release towards championship in Russia, is TV program named Fútbol mundial.
This TV program will be introducing Russia, its history, culture and football. Besides, it is planned to release Russia Monthly program starting this autumn. Similar program had been publishing for 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil ™. Such program usually includes information about preparation process, football infrastructure, spectators etc.
