A Royal Biographer - Natalia Kulishenko
Natalia Kulishenko is one of those who stick in your memory: good-looking, intelligent, with a special stance, and a sharp eye reaching into the depths of historic designs and human minds. The will of Fate as well as her own nature bestowed on her a special mission – to write the first in Russia biography of the Queen Mother of Great Britain, and with this, to become a person whose work brings together the cities of the world. Such women are exactly what Volgograd can pride itself on: it takes great souls to live to the city standing on a great Russian river…
Natalia Kulishenko majored in linguistics. She graduated from Volgograd State Pedagogical University, Foreign Languages Faculty, English and German department. Since 2002, she has studied the biography of the Queen Mother of Great Britain, Queen Elisabeth. Her painstaking research resulted in the book “Stat’ Korolevoy. Biografiya Elizavety” (To Become a Queen. Elisabeth’s Biography). Besides, Natalia is one of the authors writing for the Encyclopedia of Volgograd Region. We are publishing a collection of interviews and articles in Russian and English, to be enjoyed both by Natalia Kulishenko’s continuous readers and those who take interest in the development of Russian-English relations.

ЛОНДОН, РИА Новости, Мария Табак. Биографическая книга о королеве-матери Елизавете, впервые написанная на русском языке, представлена в Лондоне.
"Я обнаружила, что на русском языке нет ни одной биографии этой выдающейся женщины, и в 2002 году, когда она умерла в возрасте 101 года, я решила восполнить этот пробел", — рассказала автор книги "Стать королевой" Наталия Кулишенко, выступая в понедельник на презентации в представительстве Россотрудничества в Великобритании.
По словам исследовательницы, главное отличие ее произведения от биографий Елизаветы на английском языке заключается в том, что жизнь королевы Великобритании описана в широком контексте британо-российских отношений, прежде всего, во времена Второй мировой войны.
"Куратором книги является видный российский дипломат, бывший посол России в Великобритании Юрий Фокин, который лично был знаком с королевой-матерью. Недавно мне пришло письмо из Букингемского дворца от принцессы Анны с поздравлением относительно выхода книги "Стать королевой". В свое время принцесса Анна поддержала идею написания книги, выразив это тем, что прислала мне в дар свой портрет. Из всех Виндзоров она — единственная, кто побывал в Волгограде и даже держала в руках знаменитый меч своего деда, короля Георга VI. В настоящее время подарок короля хранится в музее-заповеднике Сталинградской битвы", — рассказала Кулишенко, сама являющаяся уроженкой Волгограда.
Биография королевы-матери пера Кулишенко вышла ограниченным тиражом 500 экземпляров, однако исследовательница выразила надежду, что в скором времени книга будет переведена на английский язык.
Волгоградская писательница рассказала в Стамбуле как «Стать королевой»
25 ноября завершила работу 31-я Международная книжная ярмарка в Стамбуле. Главные цели книжного форума – поддержка издательств, популяризация чтения, культурное взаимообогащение и укрепление международных связей.
В этом году в состав делегации, представляющей Национальный российский стенд, вошла волгоградка, автор книги «Стать королевой. Биография Елизаветы. Сталинградская история английской королевы» Наталия Кулишенко.
По образованию Наталья лингвист, одна из авторов статей Энциклопедии Волгоградской области. Преподавала английский в ВолГУ, вела авторскую программу «Код любви» и другие аналитические передачи на волгоградском ТВ, являлась главным редактором волгоградского глянцевого журнала
– Три часа приятного полёта и вот мы в Константинополе, прошу прощения, в Стамбуле, – в свойственной мастерам пера поэтической манере делится впечатлениями волгоградская писательница. – Город – на пересечении Европы и Азии, огромный порт с флотилией на Босфоре и омывающем его Мраморном море, – перекрёсток культур, христианской и мусульманской; мегаполис современный, величественный, бережно хранящий свою историю, чтобы явить её миру. Недаром сюда стекаются туристы со всего мира полюбоваться древними достопримечательностями…
Книга нашей землячки не прошла незамеченной и стала яркой страницей российской программы. На встрече со студентами Стамбульского университета, изучающими русский язык, Наталия Кулишенко познакомила слушателей с первой русскоязычной биографией Елизаветы, полвека носившей титул Королевы-матери и ставшей в 2000 году почетным гражданином Волгограда за помощь Сталинграду в военные годы. Автор исследования рассказала историю союзнических отношений СССР и Англии в дни Второй мировой войны.
– Для меня было большой честью принять участие в ярмарке и представить гостям российского стенда свою книгу, – поделилась Наталия Кулишенко. – Рассказать не только о помощи английской королевы военному Сталинграду, но в канун празднования 70-летия нашей победы в битве на Волге напомнить о роли Сталинграда в истории Второй мировой войны.
По завершении 31-го Международного книжного смотра в Стамбуле книги, представленные на Национальном российском стенде, были переданы в дар Стамбульскому университету на кафедру русского языка.
Annual book fair took place in London
The annual book fair took place in London from 15 to 17 of April, which many famous as well as young Russian writers have taken part in, including Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Dmitry Bykov, Anna Starobinets and many more.
The representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo, being a partner of or the “Read Russia” project, which was organised by the Rospechat and the Yeltsin Fund and was presented in Great Britain as a part of the book fair, have held a series of book launches and creative meeting.
On the 15th of April the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo held the book launch of Natalia Kulishenko’s “Become the queen. Elizabeth’s biography. Stalingrad’s history of the English Queen”.
It is a documentary writing about the achievement of personhood of Elizabeth, her ascension to the British throne, the actions of the Royal Couple during the World War II, the help for Stalingrad in war, the conferral of the honorary citizen of the Volgograd hero-city title to the Queen and other details of the life of the Queen and her suite.
The book launch was accompanied by showing of the photos from the personal archives of the author and the Funds of the Stalingrad battle museum and reserve, a part of which was presented in Great Britain for the first time.
On the 16th of April in front of the full audience of the representative office the creative meeting with the famous Russian writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya was held. She has told about her work, shared her memories, presented new projects, including the “The holy trash” autobiographical book, which contain articles, essays, interview extracts.
Arch Tait has performed as the moderator of the meeting. He is the famous translator of Russian literature to English. He introduced an English reader to such works by Lyudmila Ulitskaya as “Sonechka”, “Medea and her children” and “Daniel Stein, Interpreter”.
On the 17th of April the Embassy of Armenia in cooperation with the representative office have held the book launch of the famous Armenian scientist Rouben Galichian “The clash of histories in the South Caucasus”. The book is the result of a longstanding laborious research of the documents from the archives of the largest museums and libraries of the World, and is dedicated to the history of the development of three southern states – Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran.
The Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Ermine Nagdalyan, British scientists-orientalists, diplomatic body members and the outstanding representatives of the Armenian diaspora in Great Britain were the guests of the book launch.
By the end of the book fair one of the major organisers of the Russian stand – Yeltsin Fund – has donated more than a hundred books of contemporary Russian authors to the library of the representative office. The parties have agreed on further cooperation in realisation of various cultural projects.
