1,700 people watched the Online Festival of Japanese Culture in Volgograd
On September 20, 2020, from 12 o’clock to 5 pm, the 8th School Alternative Festival of Japanese Culture better known under the title of the “Japanese Cupboard”. As previously, it was organized by the creative associations and artistic groups of the city and its region and supported by the International and regional relations directorate of Volgograd Mayor’s Office.

A tram dedicated to Volgograd will start circulating through Chemnitz
In July 2020, Chemnitz – Volgograd’s partner-city in the Eastern Germany – has made another step towards creating an accessible and inclusive transportation system. The City has purchased and put into operation 14 new low-floor vehicles, which substituted the previous models with less considerate exit and entrance.

Young people from 7 countries did a flashmob for a peaceful future
The year 2020 marks 75 years since the first ever military usage of nuclear weapons. Therefore, on August 6, Volgograd held a little, but meaningful Peace Ceremony in memory of the Hiroshima residents who perished in the explosion. However, it was not the only commemorative event that united empathic Volgograd residents this month. On August 8, delegates of the International Youth Conference for Peace in the Future (IYCPF) gathered on their second consecutive Zoom conference.

Peace Ceremony in memory of the atomic tragedy in Hiroshima – why is it important?
Despite the pandemic, Volgograd residents managed to pay tribute to the people of our Japanese sister-city Hiroshima, who had perished 75 years ago in an atomic bombing – the first military usage of nuclear weapons in the human history. On August 6, 2020, the “Stalingrad Battle” panorama museum hosted a little Peace Ceremony.

Hiroshima’s A-bombing in popular culture
2020 marks 75 years since the first and only usages of nuclear weapons in human history, the victims of which were Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In memory of the tragedy, Volgograd, a sister-city of Hiroshima and an Administrative City of the “Mayors for Peace” international organization, begins a series of thematic articles dedicated to the A-bombing. Hiroshima — a Phoenix City. The History of Restoration
On the 6th of August 1945, Hiroshima fell victim to the first military use of nuclear weapons in the history of the humankind. The number of people who perished from the explosion’s immediate impact is between 70 and 80 thousands. After such a disaster, everything looked like bringing the city back to life would be impossible, and that the 350-years long history of Hiroshima had come to an end. However, just like in Stalingrad, the city’s residents found in their hearts enough strength to challenge the Death itself and, despite the pain and suffering they had to go through, help Hiroshima rise from the ashes. No more Hiroshima! No more Nagasaki! 75 years since the atomic tragedy
In Russia, the year 2020 marks a joyful and glorious date: 75 years since the end of the Great Patriotic War. However, it is also a tragical milestone for the 75 years since the first and only uses of nuclear weapons – the tools so destructive and deadly that they render useless any further military actions, plunging their owners into an endless and paranoid nuclear race, and the whole other world – into an abyss of fear and mistrust.

International Youth Conference for Peace in the Future is moving online
In August 2020, Volgograd was planning to host, for the third time already, the International Youth Conference for Peace in the Future (IYCPF), that is – gather in its territory half a hundred of energetic young leaders to elaborate and discuss the projects aimed at peace building and the cementing of mutual understanding between nations. However, the COVID-19 pandemic destroyed these plans: due to the concerns about the youths’ safety, there will be no IYCPF in 2020. However, its participating cities refuse to give up: they decided to meet online instead, and more than once.
