Volgograd is an important industry-oriented center of the South of Russia. The city’s industrial potential is concentrated around eighteen industrial nods, situated in 8 city districts, and represented by leading enterprises of machinery and metal processing (cranes, bearings, tractors, agricultural machinery, metal-cutting equipment, cable products), ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy (steel, rolled products), chemical and oil chemical industries (oil, petrol, diesel fuel, caustic soda, chemical crop-protection agents, synthetic resin and plastics).

Construction materials industry is represented by industrial plants of reinforced concrete products, brick, sulphate of lime and ceramics. Food industry of the city runs on raw agricultural materials of local production. The city hosts meat-processing factories, a pasta factory, a horticultural tin factory, a confectionary and the only in Russia industrial plant producing mustard plasters.

Industrial production remains the basis of Volgograd’s social and economic development. The most advanced industrial sectors of the city are fuel and power, chemistry, metallurgy, machinery.
