Students from Chemnitz have come to Volgograd again

Comprehensive school No. 93 of the Sovietsky district of Volgograd has once again welcomed at their premises and in the city a delegation from Annenschule (Chemnitz, Germany). It is the only regular school exchange carried out in Volgograd with German partners.

Although Volgograd has friendly partnership connections with not one but two German cities, the first party of students led by their teacher Victoria Dolgova set off for Chemnitz only in 2014. Next autumn the visit was returned, and by September 2017 the fourth stage of the project had started: Volgograd welcomed 11 students and 2 teachers from Annenschule.

The exchange program has been elaborated completely by the hosting party from the comprehensive school No. 93: teachers, students and their parents. Meals and accommodation are provided by hosting families. The Cities of Volgograd and Chemnitz assist in acquiring Russian visas: due to the partnership relations between them, exchange participants are excused from the consular fee.

Within the frame of this exchange, German students can visit the most interesting places in Volgograd and its region (the “Old Sarepta” museum-reserve, the Mamay Hill, the Rossoshki memorial cemetery, the chalk mountains in Olkhovka), learn the Russian customs and national traditions, attend school lessons and join in the extracurricular activities of Russian youth. This year, their visit fell upon the Day of the City, which is a promise of an unforgettable weekend.

To definitely attend moto freestyle competitions and watch the aviation show on Sunday – such was the advice given to the Chemnitz delegation by the Deputy Mayor of Volgograd Alexey Volotskov, with whom the exchange participants met on September 8.

The meeting took place in the conference room of Volgograd City Council. The students learned the City’s plans for the reconstruction of the embankment and shared their impressions about Volgograd and the exchange project in general. Their Volgograd peers were unanimous in their call for more exciting and versatile joint projects! – whereas students from Chemnitz shyly confessed that the thing they liked most about Volgograd was food.

In conclusion, Chemnitz teachers Ms. Marlen Pletz and Ms. Katrin Wild said a heartfelt farewell speech and shared their joy at the decision taken together with their Volgograd colleagues – to continue the exchanges.
